The Secret Island. Procida, a perfect Italy wedding destination

Drenched in golden sunshine, candy-colored houses, and authentic charm, Procida beckons refreshingly real with a promise of old-world dolce vita and a Hollywood kind of romance. The beautiful Flegrean Island that won the title of Italy’s Capital of Culture for the year 2022 is a land of vibrancy and luscious nature; Earlier this Spring, together with an uber-talented team of creatives, we ventured across the Neapolitan Gulf to its sun-bleached streets, 17th-century neighborhoods, and dreamy Nabilah Luxury Beach Venue, crafting an Italianate wedding inspiration that will make you week on the knees. But before we get to share more about this incredible editiorial, read on to find what makes Procida the perfect, alternative, but oh so “must” addition to your Italy destination wedding list.

Docking at Marina di Procida, prepare to be stunned by a sweep of a pastel-hued jigsaw puzzle of homes cascading down the hill, sure to rival the pretty of Portofino and Positano. We won’t blame you a sec if this feels a tad familiar, as much of the filming for Anthony Minghella’s “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” as well as Massimo Troisi and  Michael Radford’s “The Postman” was done amongst these very grounds. How incredible is this! Here, people whiz around on Vespas or buzz their three-wheeled Ape trucks and ridiculously cute Cinquecentos with the yellow dome of the Church of Santa Maria Delle Grazie rising from behind the colorful abodes as their sentinel; secret lemon groves are squeezed into every space available, and the faded paintwork walls are enlivened with pink bougainvillea, and tiny white jasmine, whose heady scent mixed with the salty breeze will instantly have you swoon over Procida’s authentic beauty.

As an Amalfi Coast wedding photographer, I’ve had my fair share of gorgeous beaches, luxurious villas, and immaculate lawns. Many of my couples have often opted for the Godard-famed Capri or the glamorous island of Ischia. But Procida, with its hauntingly beautiful Palazzo d’ Avalos (the 16th-century fort that used to be the royal palace for the House of Bourbon), its extremely generous natural beauty and unfeigned medieval Terra Murata can make for a truly spectacular Italian wedding photography backdrop.

Wander the Marina Grande, Marina Corricella, and Marina di Chiaiolella, stroll along the quirky crumbling edifice of Abbazia di San Michele whose terrace views will make your Procida wedding images a dream; curate an intimate and simple Procida pre-wedding welcome lunch at La Medusa, Caracale, La Lampara, La Conchiglia,  Ciraccio or Il Pescatore, the most well-known (and completely unpretentious) ristorantes which have been serving celebrities – the likes of Truman Capote, Pablo Neruda, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, Leonardo di Caprio, Elisabeth Taylor, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman and more- the most ah-mazing food since the 50ies. And if you’re lovers of sugar, you can surely spoil your wedding guests with lingua di suocera Procida’s most traditional lemon-custard-filled puff pastry;

aving a destination wedding in Procida means you’re in for some of the most scenic beaches; Think rocky cliffs and black sands (The Postman was filmed at Pozzo Vecchio), long aperitivo-fused rosy sundowns amidst rows of umbrellas, and essential Italian charm with sailboats bobbing on the sea. You can tell why I have so much affection for documenting I do’s at that magical Italian island. As for the aesthetics to look for when exchanging your vows in Procida? More is coming from our latest wedding editorial in Nabilah, so stay tuned.
