When Gelsomina and her husband Raffaele decided to open a small eatery tucked among the vineyards and orchards of the Migliera on Capri in the 50ies, little did they know that not only would they get featured in a Axel Munthe’s famous book “The Story of San Michele”, but they would also grow to become one of the most iconic restaurants in Capri. If you’ve frequented Da Gelsomina you might have spotted Valentino, Bourdain, Kate Upton or Danny De Vito dinning, but you will also happen upon sublime moments like my couple Caroline & Tal experienced with their loved ones during their Mediterranean wedding welcome dinner.
Pastilles, limoncello, local delicacies, and lemon-dotted goodie bags awaited to welcome the couple’s guests at the pre-dinner Aperol on the terrace of Da Gelsomina overlooking the Bay of Naples, where a live music band dressed in traditional Caprese looks lifted the spirits and had everyone bask in the glory of the sunset in the happiest of vibes. Capri Moments tended to every single detail, with a vibrant alfresco Aperol bar, hand-painted menus and seating stations adding to the pretty of the lush vineyards below. Inside, the tables were set in happy Capri -evoking accents, chili pepper trees, citruses and fresh herbs that gave the feast a tangible deluxe feel.  Gliding effortlessly in stunning Zimmermann & Valentino fashion Carolina and Tal, whose Capri ties go beyond simply getting wed at the Italian destination of their dreams (see their 3-day luxury wedding in J.K. Place here), mixed and mingled with their select guests, reliving erstwhile poetic glories overlooking the multicolored villas, hotels, and casas stacked up the hill. Apart from the perpetual ebb and flow of laughs, embraces, and merrymaking, we all enjoyed the most delicious oven-baked pizza and panini the island can afford, toasting to love and the goodness of life.
