When one of your weddings happens to be shared with the world in the world’s biggest bridal publication ever, you just know it was spectacular! Couples across the globe had the fortune of being inspired by Danae and Niccolò’s Amalfi Coast wedding last summer, as it exclusively graced the pages of Brides. With just 30 of their closest friends and family joining the couple on the famous coastline, it was an absolute honour to document their love story and multi-day celebration. We welcome you to scroll through their stunning imagery and immerse yourself in some much-needed Amalfi Coast wedding inspiration…
After a whirlwind romance, Influencer and Journalist Danae Mercer happily accepted Niccolò Ricci’s offer of proposal, joining the Italian entrepreneur in his forever plans. In fact, this loved-up duo moved in together after just one month of meeting one another, after Italy went into COVID lockdown. “I figured if being together 24/7 was easy (and it was), then he was a keeper”, Danae tells us. “Since then, we’ve combined our homes, mixed together my two kitties and his one doggo, and embarked on the most magnificent of adventures.”
Danae and Niccolò set a date to say, ‘I Do’ for 25th September 2021 in Amalfi, Italy. “Amalfi just felt right. The coastline, the view, the warm nature of the Southern Italians – all of it really spoke to our hearts.” Unfortunately the couple struggled to find the perfect wedding venue, and Jacquie at The Amalfi Experience had to step in to save the day! “We lost our venue a month before the wedding. That was pretty scary, and there was a stage where I was worried that we wouldn’t find a new one. September is Amalfi’s busiest time for weddings, plus there was the roll over from last year’s Covid cancellations. Jacquie approached us with Borgo Santandrea. The property had literally just opened, and we would be their first wedding, but it was so beautiful and sounded so amazing. We said yes, and it is one of the best decisions we made.”
The Amalfi Experience team worked with the couple to plan a beautiful weekend-long celebration, with the Gianni di Natale Photographer collective at the helm to capture it all on camera as it unfolded. “Nicco and I are both pretty relaxed and happy, and we love the ocean, so we wanted to make sure that our wedding wasn’t too fussy, while it also incorporated the sea. Having the multiple ceremonies and events over several days really allowed us to spend time with our dear ones, which was a huge priority. And the spaces all had magnificent views, so everything just felt beyond special. Even the sunny weather was on our side.”
A hike along Amalfi’s Path of the Gods allowed for Danae and Niccolò’s guests to settle in and enjoy some time together, breaking the ice with people they hadn’t met before. This was followed by a formal dinner the next day, hosted at Monastero Santa Rosa, a luxury hotel and spa set within the heart of the Amalfi Coast. There was a chic white guest code that looked incredible against the backdrop of the venue’s pool and the azure waters of the sea. This was the evening where the couple hosted the speeches and the formalities.
When the official wedding day arrived, the soon-to-be newlyweds and their loved ones headed to the Borgo Santandrea. “It was beyond stunning, so decorating felt so easy. We went with really delicate colours—navy, champagne, rose gold, and white, and since our wedding was so small, we asked all of our guests to dress in those shades. It made for a really beautiful experience.”
They hosted a a traditional church ceremony at the local Chiesa San Pancrazio Martire, upon request of Nicco’s family. His dad, Carlo Ricci, walked Danae down the aisle. “I feel like I haven’t just married the man of my dreams, I’ve also been invited into the most marvellous family.” After the ceremony, the happy couple hopped into a vintage BMW, driving around Amalfi’s winding roads. As their designated wedding photographers, we were (safely) zooming around after the bride and groom, shooting videos and photographs alongside honking cars and shouting cheers – everyone was celebrating Danae and Niccolo’s Amalfi Coast wedding!
Music was a huge part of their wedding reception, with a traditional Neopolitan quintent performing as guests arrived from the church. A live singer performed for several hours while their friends and family mingled in the Italian sunshine, and their first dance was to ‘Dancing Cheek to Cheek’ by Louis Armstrong.
“We went down to the beach for cake cutting. Here we placed a lot of lanterns to create an intimate vibe as the sun set. We decided on a traditional mille feuille cake with cream,I am not so wild about thick icing on wedding cakes, and we wanted something that felt very Italian—so that was perfect. For Borgo, we wanted people to dance more and have a good time. When we went down to the beach, we switched to a DJ who played a lot of upbeat dance tunes.”
