The hill of Ravello

On countless occasions, while crossing the Chiunzi pass heading from the low-lying towns of the Agro Nocerino Sarnese up towards Ravello, I have stopped my car just before arriving in Ravello to look at the mountain ridge that begins at Montalto di Tramonti and disappears below the sea beween Maiori and Minori. As I watched the view I would think and wonder about the pathway that climbs from the valley of Sambuca halfway up the coast, travelling between terraces and cultivated areas of land, following the turn of gorges and rocks. And I would promise myself, time and again, that one day I would satisfy my curiosity by heading up into those hills. And so, early one fresh November day, armed with my camera, I finally set off from Ravello and spend the whole day travelling along the pathways that cross land cultivated with olive trees and I crossed fields of spectacular chestnut trees and farmhouses full of charm.
