Rituals of Ravello
The ritual of the sacred procession in Ravello
Between the Thursday and Friday of ‘Holy Week’ known as ‘Settimana Santa’ in
Italian, during the night of prayers and veneration, on the streets of
Ravello a traditional ritual is held. The ‘rituale del sacro corteo dei
Battenti in visita ai sepolcri’, is the ritual of the sacred procession of
devotees visiting the graves and tombs.
The procession of the devotees today symbolizes and bears testimony to
popular ancient practices which were followed every year during Holy Week.
These centuries-old practices help to re-discover the core values that bind
the present to the past.
